THE VISIT OF JOSEP BORRELL ADDS A NEW IMPETUS TO GEORGIAN-EU RELATIONS AND WILL HAVE A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON THE DECISION IN DECEMBER TO GRANT GEORGIA ITS CANDIDATE STATUS – ILIA DARCHIASHVILI
The visit of Josep Borrell, High Representative of the European Union to Georgia certainly adds a new impetus to Georgian-EU relations and will have a significant impact on the bloc’s decision in December on whether to grant Georgia its candidate status - Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili said at the Tbilisi International Airport when assessing the visit of High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy / Vice- President of the European Commission.
Darchiashvili noted the current progress in the implementation of 12 priorities, outlined by the EU last year for granting its membership candidate status to Georgia. According to the Minister, the visit of Joseph Borrell is a special signal from the European Union and points to the fact that peace and security in the region are a high priority for the European Union.
In the framework of his visit, the EU High Representative will meet the Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili, Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili.
