Preparatory Meeting for the 67th Round of the Geneva International Discussions

On 2 June 2026, a preparatory meeting for the 67th round of the Geneva International Discussions was held in Tbilisi with the participation of the Co-Chairs from the European Union, the United Nations and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). The meeting was led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Head of the Georgian Delegation to the Geneva International Discussions (GID) Lasha Darsalia.

At the meeting, the Georgian side focused on the situation in Georgia’s occupied regions and along the occupation line, particularly with regard to security, humanitarian issues and human rights. It also drew attention to steps taken by the Russian Federation toward the illegal annexation of Georgia’s occupied territories in blatant violation of the fundamental principles of international law, including the so-called agreement “On Deepening Alliance and Cooperation” signed on May 9, 2026, between Russia and the Tskhinvali occupation regime.

Particular emphasis was placed on the need to ensure the effectiveness of the Geneva International Discussions format. In this context, attention was drawn to the importance of addressing the core items on the negotiation agenda, including the implementation of Russia’s international obligations under the EU-mediated ceasefire agreement of 12 August 2008 and the need to achieve progress toward the safe and dignified return of internally displaced persons and refugees. The meeting also underscored the importance of restoring the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) in Gali without any preconditions and of holding its meetings in both Gali and Ergneti on a regular basis in accordance with its founding principles.

The 67th round of the Geneva International Discussions is planned to take place on 30 June and 1 July, 2026.
