MEETING HELD AT MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS WITH THE CHAIRMAN OF THE CENTRAL ELECTION COMMISSION AND THE HEADS OF DIPLOMATIC MISSIONS ABROAD
On 13 June 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ilia Darchiashvili met with Giorgi Kalandarishvili, the Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC). The meeting, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, included the heads of Georgia's diplomatic missions abroad, deputy ministers, Georgian ambassadors, and consuls general. The primary focus was on the administration of the 2024 parliamentary elections.
The discussion covered the logistics of conducting elections abroad and the procedures for Georgian citizens living overseas to participate. Emphasis was placed on the importance of voter engagement and information dissemination for citizens abroad.
Key points included the advantages of using technology extensively in the October 26 elections and other innovations and projects aimed at ensuring the 2024 elections meet international and European standards.
Minister Ilia Darchiashvili highlighted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is leveraging all legal avenues to ensure that compatriots living abroad can vote easily and without obstacles.
